Federal Cabinet has decided to re-examine a summary report in order to approve the changes for Islamabad’s master plan. The government body has given green signal on March 2019 to update 58 years old master plan of Islamabad.

Islamabad Model Prison

CDA has proposed to remove green belts from Sector H-16 to continue the construction of Islamabad Model Prison. Its construction is already in progress.

Meanwhile several acres of land is of no use in Sector H-16 due to green areas & buffer zone. CDA proposed to eliminate this green belt & realignment of 17th avenue. Since Model Prison is located in this area. This prison is expected to sprawl over an area of more than 90 acres and have the capacity to accommodate almost 2000 prisoners. The overall cost for this project is Rs 3.9 Billion.

Model Prison construction is vital due to absence of any particular prisoners of Islamabad police & judicial system. All the prisoners transferred to Adiala Jail up until now.
