Rawalpindi Master Plan

Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) all set to update the master plan for City, Rawalpindi. Provincial Government directs the civic body to start the process of rectifying the master plan for coming 30 years. Chairman RDA, Arif Abbasi, verified this news.

As per news report, Rawalpindi is connected to Islamabad to very large extent. It pertinent to update Rawalpindi Master plan after changes in Islamabad Master Plan. As it causes difficulties for both the cities.

Salient Features of The New Master Plan

Mr. Abbasi said that due to absence of efficient master plan city is facing many problems. This latest master plan will address the following issues:

  • Traffic problems
  • Lack of civic utilities like water, electricity & gas
  • Sewerage issues
  • Telephone connection problem
  • Poor condition of roads & streets
  • Deplorable state of parks & green belts
  • Bad state of hospital & educational institutes

Previous Master Plan for Rawalpindi

Previously, 2 master plan was designed but unfortunately they remained unimplemented. For now, Satellite Imagery will be used to identify sectors in the city. Several factors are focused while designing it.

First master plan was designed in 1968. Other plan was designed in 1996. It was outlined for 20 years i.e. till 2016. Till now, due to massive urban migration, cities periphery expanded in the most unorganized manner. Due to failed traffic engineering & no right-of-ways, main roads contracting abruptly. Ultimately, it leads to severe traffic jams. In addition, lack of population data also causes shortage of civic utilities provision.
