Rawalpindi Ring Road (RRR) has proposed Zurich International as the projects consultant for this mega project. Basically, its a Swiss company, This firm is subject to physical verification before any final word.
Zurich International is asked to submit an extensive report about designing, geometric & structural engineering involved in this project. It is also asked to propose a compensation or resettlement plan for the affectee’s of RRR project.
Time period of 6 month has been awarded to the firm for the final submission of this report. As per news sources, if the firm fails to complete this task within the given time frame then RDA will again invite another session for consultancy proposals.
Presently, 5 firms namely MS National Engineering, MS Omani Company, MM Pakistan, MS Zurich International and MS Associated Consultancy center were in the run for submitting a feasibility report for RRR project worth Rs.85 billion.
Furthermore, Government of Punjab has earmarked Rs.4 billion for acquiring land as well. On the other hand, RDA decided to start the process of land acquiring after submission of final report from the consultancy firm.
Rawalpindi Ring Road
Rawalpindi Ring Road is a long-standing yet most awaited project. It was proposed long time ago in 1991. To date, several proposal & announcements regarding Rawalpindi Ring Road have been made. Unfortunately, it cannot be completed due to several factors involved.
In the present regime, this government has decided to start working on it under the supervision of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA). It is inching close to completion now. It will start from Channi Sher Alam Bridge near Rawat & will lead till Thalian Interchange on Lahore-Islamabad Motorway.

Once completed, it is speculated to relieve the traffic bottle neck on National Highway N-5. It will also help to alleviate traffic congestion in the busy area of both Rawalpindi & Islamabad. Furthermore, overall travel time would also be reduced on several routes. RDA also proposes to move economic zone along side of RRR route. Various upscale & state of the art housing schemes are already developing in suburb of Rawalpindi Ring Road including Capital Smart City, Blue World City, Rudn Encalve,Bahria Orchard, PIA enclave & many others.
