New Islamabad Master Plan All set for Review

Capital Development Authority (CDA) reviewed the master plan of Islamabad after 58 years. Chairman CDA, Amir Ali Ahmed, established a committee mainly include Deputy Commissioner and member planning CDA. This committee will negotiate with housing societies’ developers, located beside The Expressway, to participate in overall development of area. He added that this reviewed Master plan will be forwarded to cabinet committee for additional analysis.

Recommendations in New Mater Plan

CDA’s spokesperson said that long-term measures would adopted to resolve the illegal housing schemes issue in capital. Slums are also planned to relocate to ensure the provision of basic necessities to these undermined strata of society.

Moreover, skyscrapers in the mid of capital referred as “stains on the Master Plan”. So further policies are also speculated to resolve this issue. No educational institutes allowed in residential area as per CDA’s rules and regulations. On the other hand, 400 schools are currently operational in those areas.

Further, it will also look after the road expansion and conservation of greenery and review the legal aspects of private housing societies.

Past Progress

The process of reviewing the master plan was in progress since last year. In Nov 2018, a commission formed to analyze the current master plan. It also proposed the necessary changes required to cope up the current issues.

In Jan 2019, first committee of federal commission held to discuss the dynamics of current master plan. It also notified that this master plan got expired in 1980. Till now, no such effort has ever made to renew it. On the other hand, the population and development increased double in numbers till now. In month of February, series of meeting held to review the recommendations made by sub-committees and commission.

Islamabad Mater Plan

The master plan of Islamabad designed by Greek Architect, Constantinos Apostolou Doxiadis. It was designed in 1958. Little changes then made in 1992 to ensure the provision of civic services and further sectors also designed.

Afterwards, no amendments were made. This new master plan was designed by keeping in mind the changing dynamics of next 20 years. It will also ensure the capital preservation of greenery in capital
